Weight Discrimination at Work: Is it Legal?
Under federal and state law, it is – of course – illegal for employers to discriminate against employees based on protected categories such as race, gender, religion, and disability. With a few exceptions (including Michigan), an employee’s weight falls outside of discrimination protections, but studies show that obese employees are routinely treated differently at work. Join us for this engaging session where we’ll recap the state of obesity discrimination, discuss the variations which exist among the states related to weight-based discrimination, talk about the jurisdictions which are currently considering adding weight as a protected category, and much more.
